Hey everyone..🙋

Today is Janmashtami… 🌞

Yet another festival in India, celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna..Janmashtami

So shuffling between posts related to cooking, random stories and Gyaans, I decided to share an Indian mythological saying

And what better day to rejuvenate, look into ourselves and find some inner peace..(nahhh mine is always running away from me so..😉)

My non Indian friend’s would have heard of the epic Mahabharata, out of which was born the Hindu holy book,The Bhagavad Gita..

Hence a saying taken from it, which is applicable even to this day ..

So here it is..

Karmanye Vaadikaarastye Maa Phaleshu Kadaachana

Ma Karma Phalaheturbu Maa te sainghostva Karmani

( Shrimad Bhagvad Gita, Chapter 2, Shloka 47)

Translated:

“ You have a right to perform the prescribed work; but you are not entitled to the fruits of your action. Never consider yourself the cause for the results of your activities, and never be attached to inaction.”

This shloka is regarded as Shrimad Bhagvad Gita’s one of the most important verses as it summarizes the entire philosophy of ‘Karma’.

This is a very popular shloka often repeated and quoted by people in various contexts.

It demands that the seeker develops the knowledge of ‘right action’.

Dhyana (Meditation)and Karma have to mingle, and together they take the seeker to higher planes of spiritual enlightenment.

On the battlefield of Kurukshetra, Lord Krishna gave an inspiring message to Arjuna, which became known as Shrimad Bhagvad Gita – the song celestial.

The 700 verses rendered by Lord Krishna are considered as quintessence of Hinduism and reflects the wisdom of Upanishads..

When Arjuna saw revered teachers, beloved friends and close relatives on his enemy side, he was overtaken by grief and despair..

As a result, he chose to lay down his arms.. In fact, Arjuna wanted to escape from the war, go to the forest, and become a sanyasi..(Monk)

He did not want to face the terrible consequences of the war..

Lord Krishna categorically warned him not to do so, knowing well, that for a short while Arjuna might find peace in the forest, but would soon get involved in the life of forest and his kshatriya tendencies will manifest again..

Hence Lord Krishna taught Arjuna the shloka..which in short means do your duties irrespective of the results either good or bad..

Thus, nearly thousands of  years ago, a dazzling flash of brilliant light lit up the firmament of human civilization..

That flash, that marvelous spiritual effulgence, was the message of the Srimad Bhagvad Gita, given by the Lord Himself on the holy field of Kurukshetra..

Unlike ordinary flashes of light which die away after a split-second, this brilliant flash of that memorable day has continued to shine through the centuries, and even now illumines the path of humanity on its onward march to perfection..

Have a great weekend ahead everyone..Until next time ponder away…💞💞💞

Hey everyone🙋

Happy Sunday..🌞

A quick post today..

Mc Australia season 8 comes to  an end this week..(here in India the telecast is approximately a month behind )

I already know who the winner is and  I feel sorry cause I really wanted Matt sinclair to win..ahhhh still it was yet another lovely season..

Every time the season draws to an end..I feel sad..It’s like I want to know where the contestants are and what are they upto..about Matt..oohhh i have already told the better half, when we visit Australia, I wanto dine at his restaurant/food truck.. Apparently Matt is opening /opened up a eatery called “Ten piece cutlery”..ooooohh..lucky Australians, I really want to taste Matt’s cooking..

This season was more fun as the better half also got glued to it..tee hee hee..

So the next season of Mc USA is starting up..back to the terror chef Gordon Ramsay🙈🙈

Let’s see how much of it I am  able to follow…until next season it’s a tearful  goodbye to the 3 awesome Australian judges..and gonna miss watching Brett, Matt, Charlie, Elise, Mimi and Harry cook..

The contestants

Pssst: A funny thing..the judges ensure and taste the contestants food sooo precisely and when it comes to the master class, I find Matt Preston ( the judge)making a burger in one and a toast in another which I find is sooo ironic and funny, of course I know he isn’t a chef but still..

So while I continue to miss this season😔, here’s wishing all a happy week ahead..💞💞💞

Happy Raksha Bandhan!!       (Brothers are just awesome!!)

Hey everyone🙋

With the festive season beginning in India.. back to back posts..

Today is Raksha Bandhan here in India..

Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu festival that celebrates the love and duty between brothers and sisters; the festival is also popularly used to celebrate any brother-sister relationship between men and women who are relatives or biologically unrelated.

Raksha Bandhan in Sanskrit literally means “The tie or knot of protection”.

On Raksha Bandhan, sisters tie a Rakhi (sacred thread) on her brother’s wrist, then prays to express her love and her wish for the well being of her brother; in return, the brother ritually pledges to protect and take care of his sister under all circumstances.

We have been celebrating Rakhi at our home since I can remember..

I have an elder brother..

So a week or few days before, the shops are laden with “Rakhis” 〰 that is the scared thread which we tie.

It  comes in all colours and designs.

So off I used to go with mummy or daddy and pick up a nice one for my brother, as I grew older,  parting with my pocket money😧 waiting  eagerly for the rakhi day.😁

We used to celebrate it mostly in the evenings once we were back from school..

So mummy used to decorate a “Thali”  that’s is a plate, laden with the sacred Vermilion and Turmeric (we call it  “Haldi and Kumkum” ) a Lamp( diya)..

The scared thread “Rakhi” and a box of sweets.. (I love laddus).🍘🍘

So traditionally my brother would be seated and mummy used to guide me..

It’s starts off by the application of the haldi kumkum combo on the forehead (called as a Teeka).. Followed by taking “Arti” with the lamp and tying of the Rakhi on the right wrist and feeding the sweetmeat to my brother and seeking blessings(in my case elder Bro, so youngsters have to touch the elders feet and take their blessings)

And the next step is more interesting( my favourite part…😉) as my brother would give me a gift.🎁💃💃💃

It is the custom everywhere.. That’s the best part of Rakhi for us sisters.. 👯

The gift that follows, could either be a chocolate.. 🍫(I used to get this very famous Cadbury’s celebrations box every year 🍬🍭🍫🍡🍥) and as we grew up my brother would give me money💸 to buy whatever I  want or sometimes would take me shopping and buy me stuff or even better I would choose what I want in advance as rakhi gift..😛

This happy moments after the ritual used to be followed by snacks made by mummy.🍴

So, again until next year I would wait for looting my brother legally with all rights.⏳😯

I used to send cards with Rakhi 📩when my brother was in the university and now only virtual pictures and messages 📲 as he is abroad but I don’t fail to collect my rakhi gifts every year.💝😜😜

Advantages of being a sister and that to the youngest and the little one.😝😛

It’s not just about gifts or blessings but a bond to strengthen the relationship between a brother and sister 👫 and knowing you have a brother to protect you from all harm, to help you, guide you, listen to your never ending rants and mostly be there for you in all situations, especially for some one like me who finds herself falling in all complicated situations all time.😛

My big brother is my second best and favourite after my daddy,  yes of course he is irritating at times😠 what with his never ending rules and regulations 🙈🙉🙊but still he is  awesome!!!! 😈😁

Happy Raksha Bandhan everyone😎

It’s Independence day!! What does it mean to you??

Hey everyone …🙋

First of all here’s wishing everyone, all my Indian friends here and abroad a very very  happy Independence day.
As India celebrates it’s 70th year of Independence, no new thoughts from me..

The same problems and doubts linger on so reposting my old  post here again..
Now of course I love my country!!I am a mixed South Indian and proud of my roots..

Yes the West does appeal to me, Whenever I watch “The English movies” (that’s how we call  Hollywood)

I sometimes wish and think how things would have been if I were an Indian born and brought up abroad but nope I loveeeeeee being a Southy  (that’s how we are referred too)

Coming to a bit more serious topic..

What is true Independence to you?? This question applies to all my reader friends from all Nations across the world.
For me personally, growing up in an open minded family (most Indian families are orthodox so) being treated equally, in fact being given more importance and attention than my brother as I am the younger one, so more pampering ensured, I never had an area where  I felt  I was confined and restrained.
I was brought up totally independent, always was and I am still.

So my views on true meaning of independence is different..
For me, today, being independent means being able to come back home at 10 p.m without having to worry about being a GIRL out at NIGHT.

Being able to wear what I want.. Even today we have  people staring at you when you wear a frock or a skirt, Being able to dress freely without having to worry about being gaped at or have men oggling at you, be it the malls or the  movies.

Being able to wear what I want without having to worry about covering up my arms or butt.

Being able to go for my walks on the roads without worrying about it being safe or not!

Not having to carry a pocket knife every time I go out alone in the evenings..

Even in today’s modern day, there are companies and workplaces who look down upon pregnant women or women who have taken maternity leave or planning for one. It’s like as if  they have committed a crime being pregnant..

I have had my boss scream at me (even before I was married) telling us, “You girls are so useless, you come here only to get pregnant!! ” Just imagine his audacity.. ( He is one of the top surgeons in India, an educated doc who has two children.. Just cause his wife did not have to take leave doesn’t mean we all are privileged that way.. We need  to study, work and make babies too)

I have had many friends go  through hell when they were pregnant, As the bosses and other staff either bitch about them or act too sympathetic in front of them.

Why do they forget, It’s a physiological  phenomenon not a contagious disease or a sin!!

I have friends who tell me its totally different in the West, Pregnant woman are treated  with so much more respect..

I definitely would want a change in this aspect, that’s when the true feeling of being free will seep in for me.

Being independent means the willingness to board a cab/taxi or an auto without having to call your parents and family and Inform the vehicle number, without having to keep an eye on the driver (so many cases of rape have taken place this way,  so better to be cautious than sorry)

Being independent would mean not having to worry and live in a constant fear about your friend’s little daughters safety, the constant fear of hearing little girls being molested and raped in a sacred institution like school..

The true essence of feeling  independent would be when I don’t have to expect a rude abusive answer or a harried look from the bus conductor when I ask for my return change for the ticket I have purchased or have an argument with the auto driver over the excess fare he demands.

This is the Independent world we live in..
I do love my country, Pardon me if I am sounding toooo patriotic but yes indeed I feel blessed to be born here but everything comes with it’s own drawbacks and these are  just a few of my rants at what being truly Independent means to me..

What does true Independence  mean to you??Do share in your views..

Festive humour (Chitragupta’s Problem..!!)

Hey everyone🙋

It’s Vara maha lakshmi festival🎉🎊 here in the South of India, so we celebrate the festival dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi (the consort of Lord Vishnu) praying for the long lives of the Husbands..

Here’s a humourous message  doing the rounds which I wanted to share..

My Non Indian friends might not get the names of the various  mythological characters so a description  for them…

*Chitragupta ( who keeps records of all our karmas and deeds on earth)

*Brahma (Creator of the universe)

*Narada( Divine sage- who carries news and a devotee of Lord Vishnu)

So here it is..

“`Chitragupta’s problem “😩😩😩

One day  Chitragupta told Bramha that he should stop this scheme that if ladies keep Varalakshmi pooja…they will get the same  husband for the next 7 janmas. (7 births)

😕😕😕
Brahma asked, ”Why”❓

😕😕😕
Chitragupta : .Sir, its becoming difficult to manage…

The wives want the same husband 👨 but the husband’s want a new wife every birth 💃

Its a problem to convince both.

😩😩😩
Bramha : But this can’t be stopped…

It’s been going on since times immemorial.

😕😕😕

Just then Narada  comes and he suggested…

On earth, there is a great person called ” Santa Singh” 👳

Ask him for a solution.

(Chitragupta meets “Santa Singh”)
In one minute “Santa Singh ” solves the problem…😎
He advises Chitragupta..

Any wife who wants the same husband…tell her that she will also get the same  “MOTHER IN LAW”  for the next 7 births 💀😖👹

All women screamed “Oh God No!!!”

😡😡😳😳😩😩😕😕🙆🙆
Hence Problem solved😜😜😜

So moral of the story..it comes down to the monster in law in the end…few friends here will know what I mean..😉😉😉😉

Psst:
It’s a long  weekend here in India with festivities and India celebrating it’s Independence day on the 15th of August..🌞

So wishing all a wonderful long lazy weekend..💞💞💞

Hey everyone..🙋

A Happy Sunday and Happy Friendship Day..👫👬

A quick post..

I have no clue how this day came into existence..too taxing to Google about it now..😪
I HAD a best friend  of whom I was soooo proud and sure off..very rarely do you see childhood friendship’s blossoming and sticking around till you are thirty..

I thought mine was the perfect friendship..

A kind of Ice cream with Hershey’s syrup blend but unfortunately  due to certain events the so called bestie stopped talking..😒

This wasn’t the first time and so I had given up hope of rekindling our friendship..⚡

Had been doing that since ages without realising that it was futile..

We have heard of one sided love..ever heard of one sided friendships??Mine was such..

I kept giving and the other receiving..

Finally I had to sit back and think about it..

Enough was enough..

I have my personal life too, couldn’t put up with my friend’s constant needs and cribbings and mood offs..😟

Yet I tried to patch up, as I believe people dont change..It’s time and circumstances which force one to do the things they do..
Chance after chance yet no sign of truthfullness from the other end and I decided it was time to let go and move on..

It isn’t that I have shortage of besties but you kind of feel connected to that one person who knows you since childhood..

Right now I am  proud to say I have found loving trustworthy and amazing friends, who I can turn to for anything and everything but yet a feeling of void prevails where that one person you trusted, betrayed you..
Anyways, so here I am today without my bestie..my soul sister (weird)..😔
Yet I am happy happy and asked my better half as a joke would you be my best friend this year..which had him in splits and taunting me saying “Yeah right..!!” 😤

So as of now, My better half is my best best bestie this year followed by my dad and granny..so what more could I ask for..💃💃

A  note here..📝

Just wanted to wish my  lovely bloggers friends who make my days happy happy with their posts and though I don’t post frequently, they take time off to read and comment on mine..😃😃

When I was at the lowest, I found solace in reading their  comments and posts..It cheered me up..

I found a whole new world of friends I hadn’t ever met yet could connect to them..🎈

So thanks you guys- Garfield hugs..That mish mash(Pri).. Tingle ur taste buds (M)..Mr.Tookles (M)..Blong shong..Freda.. (sorry if I am unable to name all..)

Everyone here is sooo very special so thanks guys for being such wonderful friends in the blogging world..💝

Have a happy week ahead guys..💕💕
