The above picture was taken at a confectionery shop at Kolkata’s City Centre 2..a shopping mall… One glance and it reminded me of the toadstools in the fairy tale books… Oh how I wish that was me sitting atop it…. 😍
Reminded me of this poem I read long long ago… It goes like this…
The Toadstool House
I wish I lived in a toadstool house, Beneath an old Oak tree, With a tiny door and a chimney pot, And windows – one, two, three.
I’d play with each wee squirrel, Who chanced to come my way, I’d get to know the woodland birds, And feed them every day.
And if you’d ever wandered by, I’d ask you in to tea, Inside my little toadstool house, Beneath the old Oak Tree.
Since I am on my eternal never ending diet mode I would like to post and share about few superfoods which are soo common and soo underrated…
Since the pandemic started and even before that in my quest to understand what to eat and what not for weight loss I have come across, read about and consumed soo many foods… Which so called are low in calories and help to loose weight!!!
Nowadays we have an aqua mineral water infused with vitamins and all the essential nutrients… a diet coke with zero calories..super energizer power packed drinks..a ready to have low calorie high ptotein smoothie and what not…Come to think of it why would anyone want to pay extra money and go for something which doesn’t seem as healthy as advertised, when a humble, easily available tender coconut does the job at a lower cost?? Way back as a kid I remember sipping them for as low as 5 rupees which has escalated to 25 Rs per coconut and the prices rise during summers.. 🌴
This is one super food/ super drink which can be had even during pregnancy when one is coping with morning sickness or when you have a stomach upset..gastric issues..electrolyte imbalance or plain and simple to just loose weight and stay hydrated… 🌴
As a doctor I advise this to my patients when I prescribe certain medications which cause potassium depletion in the body.. Due to it’s potassium and varied mineral components it helps to stabilise the sodium potassium levels in the body…🌴
It’s such a naturally occuring elixir which has all the nutrients one can ask for in any health drink and most importantly has soo many health benefits ranging from lowering sugar levels to working it’s magic as an antioxidant.. 🌴
Of course it’s important to consume the water fresh from the coconut.. I still don’t believe in those packaged coconut drinks as they usually have some kind of preservatives…🌴
As I was scrolling google for some gifs..I came across that September 2nd is celebrated as World coconut day!!! Super coincidence of some sorts…🌴
I incorporate this drink everyday in my diet..helps me stay on track with my weight loss…So if you get your hands on one.. Make sure to grab it and stay hydrated… 🌴
Until next time.. Have a great September everyone 🤗🌴
In a follow up to my diet food and cravings, today, I really really wanted to have some egg bhurji and plain paratha!! 😋
Ok so for the Non Indian reader friends..
Egg bhurji is scrambled eggs mixed with onions and few spices..
Plain paratha or chappathi as we call it in southern India is simple wheat bread…
It is a simple everyday meal in most Indian homes but very special to me cause as a kid I remember hogging it every single day… A sort of comfort food… 😍
Now speaking in nutritional terminology it is a complete meal with Carbs.. Proteins and takes care of the daily micronutrients too…( for the weight watchers and calorie counters😉)
Chappathi or plain paratha is made on an everyday basis in every Indian household and eaten with sabjis ( curries- both veg/ non veg) Jams..Pickles..onions..stuffed..
I like it with ghee and sugar,so now you all know how I piled on those extra kilos…my school snack box used to invariably contain atleast one ghee sugar laden paratha🙈
( My mum thought It would help me grow vertically- as in tall, but I ended up growing horizontally) 🙈
As time flew and with less time for breakfast, I started enjoying my parathas with Tea.. Oh yes the love for tea is never ending!!
The thought of having tea wid parathas/ chappathi would freak out many!!! But have you tried it?? If not just try it once.. Puris with tea.. Parathas with tea.. Even dosas dipped in tea… Ahh heaven!!! It sure needs some time for the taste buds to get used it but once you do I am sure you will love it😍
So much for my simple cravings… Easy to make.. Less calories.. Nutritious and yummy!! Until next time.. Have a great week ahead everyone!!!
Here’s wishing everyone, all my Indian friends on WP a very very happy independence day.
If you ask me I love my country, I am a mixed South Indian and proud of my roots. Yes the West does appeal to me, Whenever I watch “The English movies” (that’s how we call Hollywood) I sometimes wish and think how things would have been if I were an Indian born and brought up abroad but nope I loveeeeeee being a Southy (that’s how we are referred too)
Coming to a bit more serious topic.. What is true Independence for you?? This question applies to all my reader friends from all Nations across the world. For me personally, growing up in an open minded family (most Indian families are orthodox so) being treated equally, in fact being given more importance and attention than my brother as I am the younger one, so more pampering ensured, I never had an area where i felt I was confined and restrained.
So my views on true meaning of independence is different.
For me, today, being independent means being able to come back home at 10 p.m without having to worry about being a GIRL out at NIGHT.
Being able to wear what I want.. Even today we have people staring at you when you wear a frock or a skirt, Being able to dress freely without having to worry about being gaped at or have men oggling at you, be it the malls or the movies. Being able to wear what I want without having to worry about covering up my arms or butt. Being able to go for my walks on the roads without worrying about it being safe or not!
Not having to carry a pocket knife every time I go out alone in the evenings.
Even in today’s modern day, there are companies and workplaces who look down upon pregnant women or woman who have taken maternity leave or planning for one. It’s like as if they have committed a crime being pregnant..
Being independent means the willingness to board a cab/taxi or an auto after 8 p.m without having to call your parents and family and inform the vehicle number, without having to keep an eye on the driver (so many cases of rape have taken place this way, so better to be cautious than sorry)
Being independent would mean not having to worry and live in a constant fear about our daughter’s safety…from an infant to an elderly lady, women irrespective of age groups are not safe..
The true essence of feeling independent would be when I don’t have to expect a rude abusive answer or a harried look from the bus conductor when I ask for my return change for the ticket I have purchased or have an argument with the auto driver over the excess fare he demands.
Not having to carry a pepper spray or a small pocket knife in your handbag always…
This is the independent world we live in??!!!
I do love my country, Pardon me if I am sounding toooo patriotic but yes indeed I feel blessed to be born here but everything comes with it’s own drawbacks and these are just a few of my rants at what being truly independent means to me..
With all due respect to our freedom fighters who have laid down their lives so ours could be better.. Hope things change for the better soon… Happy Independence Day everyone..
What does true independence mean to you?? Do share in your views..
Ok guys so Independence day came and went and the little patriotic goody girl in me is still reeling in the mystery and beauty that is India so just a few thoughts about my country and what I think about the British rule..
Sounds good isn’t it.. India celebrated 69 years of independence from the British Raj..
