Ghee anyone??!!!
Here I was lazing away on a boring Monday noon 💤 💤 with all my work being done, my WordPress, mails and news all upto date and having finished reading two ebooks wondering what to do next, bored bored me!! When the idea of cooking something soothing to the soul struck me and I found myself being drawn towards the kitchen. 💁
Opening up my freezer box I found the month load of cream I had religiously and obediently ( if you may call me so) accumulated.😛
A quick defrost in the oven and I was ready to stir away my worries and boredom, in the form of home made ghee or clarified butter or butter oil as some may call it, which would emerge shortly.
I kept stirring away imagining it to be the celestial pot of amrit (Nectar)🍯(For my non Indian friends it is the pot of nectar which the Gods and the Demons fought over in Hindu mythology)🙅
Just a vague oh so me comparison here..
So stirring..stirring..dreaming and huffing puffing I finally could get a milky buttery consistency followed by the clumps being reduced to buttery butter and eventually turning into the liquid ghee or butter oil.
To be had with piping hot rice or brushed atop Rotis or Parathas as you may please.
So I pat myself and draw in the fresh aroma of my own pure home made ghee.. 😋😋
Yippee… Way to go, I tell myself👏👏.. Something useful of a Monday..:D

Ghee looks wonderful ! As a child I tried whipping cream until I had butter, so I can imagine the amount of whipping it took you ! But it taste so much better when you’ve done it yourself ! I’m just discovering your blog, it’s really lovely !

Oh yeah it’s indeed tasty.. But fattening too😝.. Next time you’re at an Indian restaurant do ask for some ghee..yummm😋😋

I haven’t made ghee in awhile, but just had this memory of making it from some butter in France. The French make the most delicious butter, but what makes it so good is that it has really high dairy solid content… When you skim that off, wow, does it ever smell bad! Think the stinkiest cheese in concentrated form. The ghee was fine, though.

I have been learning to make ghee. 3 times, only one “perfect” batch. Questions. Is stirring better than not stirring? Should foam be skimmed before straining or not? Thank you!

Hello there.. You have to put the collected cream in a pan,preferably a nonstick pan,so that the cream doesn’t get burnt and just keep stirring.. Foam doesn’t actually matter.. You can let it be.. Eventually you will have a transparent liquid which is the ghee.. Thanks for stopping by.. ☺

Haha you’ve sent me down the memory path. When I was younger my mom and grandmom used to make ghee at home (now we make it pre-packaged and buy milk without cream). I love ghee but the smell of it being cooked still makes me gag. 😛

What a lovely post! When I married, I did not know what to do with all that milk cream. After many months of procrastination, I decided to call my mother in law to understand the exact procedure of making ghee. She tried her best and I am much better at managing the splattering… But no, I still don’t like to make it.

The post turned the whole ghee making process into a wonderful culinary experience. Though I have never paid much attention to Ghee or Ghee making process, this surely changed the scene for me. Now I will surely remember you evrytime I have Ghee 🙂
